Second point, je salue la prise en compte de la « transphobie » comme discrimination punie par la loi. Longtemps ignorée, la situation des personnes transgenres ou transsexuelles qui vivent dans notre pays a été longuement abordée dans notre hémicycle. J’ai moi-même, prenant la parole sur l’article 1er lors de la précédente lecture au Sénat, tenu spécifiquement à introduire ce sujet.

Même si les termes « identité sexuelle » ne sont pas pour nous les plus appropriés – nous en avons débattu –, la prise en compte de la situation des personnes concernées est un premier pas, qui devra bien sûr, être suivi d’évolutions législatives importantes pour les droits des personnes « trans », notamment en matière d’état civil.

Secondly, I am pleased with the fact that "transphobia" has been taken into account as a discrimination punished by Law. Ignored for a long time, the situation of transsexual or transgender people was discussed at length in the Senate. I personally, in taking the floor during the discussions on Article 1 (of the Sexual Harassment Bill), wanted to specifically introduce this subject.

Even if the term "sexual identity" is not for us the most appropriate one - as we debated - the taking into account of the condition of these people is a first step that will of course need to be followed by significant legislative changes in favour of the rights of "trans" people, especially with regard to vital records.
